Synopsis:
Features seven narrators, each with a unique story, and each with a different perspective on what makes their teacher so special.
It’s the start of fifth grade for seven kids at Snow Hill School. There’s . . . Jessica, the new girl, smart and perceptive, who’s having a hard time fitting in; Alexia, a bully, your friend one second, your enemy the next; Peter, class prankster and troublemaker; Luke, the brain; Danielle, who never stands up for herself; shy Anna, whose home situation makes her an outcast; and Jeffrey, who hates school.
Only Mr. Terupt, their new and energetic teacher, seems to know how to deal with them all. He makes the classroom a fun place, even if he doesn’t let them get away with much . . . until the snowy winter day when an accident changes everything—and everyone.
I wanted to read this book because when I saw the cover and the title, I really wanted to know why Mr. Terupt was the topic of this story, and why he was so great. When I was in the middle of reading this book I realized that Mr. Terupt was like a magical teacher (even though he wasn’t really magic) who gave kids a reason to like school and try their best. I really liked this story and I think that anyone who isn’t into school will like this story as well.
“I remember thinking, sixth grade. We’re going to be sixth graders. And Mr. Terupt is going to be my teacher. Our teacher. I thought of Mrs. William’s word, MAGIC. I looked at Mr. Terupt sitting with some of my classmates. And I thought, she’s right, there will be magic. He’s my teacher.”
Here’s a list of reasons why I truly loved this book:
- I LOVED how there were seven different kids telling the story. They all have different personalities so I got to see and experience EVERYONE’S point of view!
- I really liked the plot of the story because all the kids in Mr. Terupt’s class doesn’t like school at first, but then Mr. Terupt starts to give them all hope.
- I really like all of the seven kids, but my favorite character out of them all is Jessica. She was a very down to earth person who just needed to find a place in school. She is super kind and caring to everyone.
- Even though this book didn’t have any illustrations I could visualize everything happening because of all the detail that this book included.
Overall, I ADORED this book! I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a heart-warming read!
