After finishing (and loving) It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover, I decided that I wanted to read some of her other books as well. Ugly Love was another trending book that I kept seeing all over Instagram and Tik Tok. So, I told myself that when I finished It Ends With Us, I would go on to read Ugly Love to also see what the hype is about. My expectations for this book was high because I absolutely loved It Ends With Us. I think it’s safe to say, I just found my new favorite author 😁.
Synopsis:
When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.
Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.
Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.
Here’s 4 things I love about this book:
- This book was an emotional rollercoaster. The back story of Miles that gets revealed throughout the book develops successfully develops his entire character which I found intriguing. (I know you Miles, I KNOW YOU!) Colleen Hoover has a way of making her characters so real!
- Tate, the main character of the book, was sassy and witty which I liked. The banter was fun to read! Although, I wished Tate advocated for herself more because she deserved better than what she received. (However not all characters are going to have every personality trait that we like right?!)
- This book was intense… OH the AGONY was real and painful yet beautiful. It was hard to have a solid stopping point. I found myself often reading past my bed time.
- The ending is always unexpected which I appreciate because it keeps me on my toes the entire time! Colleen Hoover for the WIN. Her creativity with the endings of her books give them a whole new life you just wasn’t expecting. I have found days after reading her books I am still thinking about them.
God gives us the ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things in life for granted.
The reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars is because I wished Tate was more resilient and knew her worth. I think that as the main character she could have been a bigger role model to show strength especially in toxic relationships. Overall, I thought the plot of the book was really good.
