Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Day! Today is a very important day to me and other fellow Americans because today is the celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. He is so important, especially in American history. Dr. King has taught us the importance of love and unity between races. Without Dr. King and other Civil Rights leaders, many of us probably wouldn’t have all of the rights that we currently have today.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from Martin Luther King:
“We may all have come on different ships, but we’re in the same boat now.”
“Darkness can’t drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate can’t drive out hate; only love can do that.”
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
“No one really knows why they are alive until they know what they’d die for.”
“It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people and not be in favor of justice for all people.”
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
“We have before us the glorious opportunity to inject a new dimension of love into the veins of our civilization.”
“Let no man pull you low enough to hate him.”
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.”

From Dr. Martin Luther King, I have learned that violence is never the answer, and love is better than hate. What have you taken away from Dr. Martin Luther King’s life? Let me know in the comments, I would love to hear from you!
