Today, I listened to The Poet X! It was about 3 hours and 30 minutes long. I have to admit, it was SOOO Good! The narration was awesome! The narrator was the author! I’ve been running short on time lately and was in need of a book today so, I decided to listen to it while I did a few chores. I honestly, prefer actually reading a book than listening to it, but I’m really glad that I listened to it. The words came out a little sing song at times but I found that so beautiful to hear. I wish, I could write like this!
I think that when authors read their own books you get a glimpse of how they intend for the reader to actually hear the words. They are able to portray the book as they thought it up in their head. It’s a true are. I highly recommend this book. Again, it’s straight to the point and as I listened to the book, I hope the author will write another book on the twin brother. He definitely has a book! Anyways, I will have a review on this book soon! Stay Tuned! ❤
Synopsis:
Xiomara Batista feels unheard and unable to hide in her Harlem neighborhood. Ever since her body grew into curves, she has learned to let her fists and her fierceness do the talking.
But Xiomara has plenty she wants to say, and she pours all her frustration and passion onto the pages of a leather notebook, reciting the words to herself like prayers—especially after she catches feelings for a boy in her bio class named Aman, who her family can never know about.
With Mami’s determination to force her daughter to obey the laws of the church, Xiomara understands that her thoughts are best kept to herself. So when she is invited to join her school’s slam poetry club, she doesn’t know how she could ever attend without her mami finding out. But she still can’t stop thinking about performing her poems.
Because in the face of a world that may not want to hear her, Xiomara refuses to be silent.
