Recently, I was tasked to work on a summer fashion project with the color theme being blue and green. It could be anything from fashion accessories, cosmetics, or clothing but again, it must have blue and green in the picture. I wasn’t given any instructions on what shades of these colors I had to use.
(I love the above picture even though my lips are not perfect!)
So, obviously, I chose a multi color blue straw summer hat, Essie’s On the Roadie (#1047) nail polish, and American Dream (SML504) NYX lip stick. I wanted something daring for summer. Many believe that wearing summer bright and light shades are the best hues for summer and that dark shades are too overbearing. However, I think you can mix dark colors with summer hues. The key to this look is summer hues must dominate and then add splashes of darker colors. I actually love this concepts because it makes you stand out from the crowd and pop.
I have always wanted to try a blue lipstick, so that’s the main reason why I chose it for this project. I wish, I would have bought a blue lip liner because I think it would have helped define my lips better but the store that I bought the lipstick from ran out. (I highly recommend it though.) I outlined my lips with the lipstick first and of course the lipstick is too thick so I didn’t get the best outline. I have blue mascara that I love but didn’t think it would be seen well with the hat on. I chose Essie’s On the Roadie (#1047) nail polish because I love this shade of green and I actually think it would look good in either spring or summer!
(Oh, let me just mention since I’m often asked this, “Do I wear make – up on a regular basis?” No, I don’t even though I love wearing it. I only wear it on special occasions, blogging, and modeling purposes only.)
See how my white dress dominates this look but the splashes of the dark colors (the blues and green-even the green in the background) make me stand out and look summery?! For the project I was working on, I didn’t have to complete the the look. It was more about the hat, the blue lips, and the green nails that’s why in every pose my hand is always on the hat. However, if I did have to complete this look, I would have added blue sandals (probably not completely blue though) and painted my toenails the same as my fingernails.
For the project, This is the picture that was chosen. It doesn’t show my dress but I wanted to share why I thought that dark colors could make summer come alive and pop! In a month or two, I’ll be able to share more information on this project. I’m super excited to see the end results/final product and what others who have participated chose to do with this summer blue and green theme!
Subtly adding darks with summer bright and light hues gives a summer outfit an edgy, bold, fresh, and trendy look. Some people are not very daring and will not do this, so if you use this concept you will probably stand out and even if others do use this they are probably not using the same color combination as you, so you will still stand out from the crowd and pop! (Always stand out…Gotta Keep ’em guessin!)
